Lake Tahoe Parasailing Questions, Answered

Everything tourists ask before booking. If you don't see your question here, contact any operator directly.

Flights range from $90 to $145 per person depending on operator and altitude. Most operators charge $90-115 for standard heights and add a premium for higher flights. Some marinas charge a small marina fee (8.5%) and weekend surcharge (10%). See our full pricing breakdown.
1,000 feet at Zephyr Cove Marina (Aramark/Zephyr Cove Resort) is the highest on the lake. Action Watersports offers up to 500-1000ft depending on package. Tahoe Sports tops out at 500ft. North Tahoe Watersports flies at 800ft. California Parasail offers 600ft and 800ft.
Most operators allow children age 5 and up. There's no upper age limit — captains routinely fly guests in their 70s and 80s. The activity is low-impact: passengers sit in a harness while suspended below the canopy.
Tandem flights require a combined weight typically between 200 and 450 lbs. Individual flyers must weigh between roughly 40 and 300 lbs. Each operator has specific limits. Triples (3-person) flights are available at most operators within the same weight envelope.
Only if you want to. Modern parasail boats lift you off and land you back on the boat deck — no swimming required. Most captains offer an optional 'toe dip' on descent as a fun add-on if conditions permit. The phrase to look for is 'stay-dry takeoff and landing.'
Usually 8 to 12 minutes in the air. The full experience (including boat ride out, prep, and return) takes about an hour. The boat ride out is about 15-20 minutes from most marinas.
All Tahoe parasailing operators run USCG-certified vessels and licensed captains using modern equipment. Operations are weather-dependent — captains cancel flights for wind, storms, or rough water. The activity has a strong safety record industry-wide when conducted by certified operators.
Captains make weather calls morning-of based on wind speed and conditions. If your flight is cancelled due to weather, you'll receive a full refund or reschedule. Mornings are typically calmest — book early in the day for the highest probability of flying.
Most Lake Tahoe operators require a minimum of 2 people per flight (tandem). Tahoe Sports specifically requires 2-3 people per tour. Action Watersports allows 1-3 passengers. Solo flights are sometimes available at lower altitudes — check directly with the operator.
Strongly recommended, especially June through August. Walk-ups are sometimes possible but weekends and holiday weeks fill up days in advance. Most operators offer instant online confirmation and free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure.
Swimsuit and quick-dry clothing. Wear sunscreen, sunglasses with a strap (or attached lanyard), and bring a hat. Skip loose accessories — they will blow away. Closed-toe water shoes are ideal for the boat. See our full packing list.
Most operators ask you to leave personal cameras and phones on the boat or in a locker. The motion makes it almost impossible to get a good shot anyway. Most operators sell photo packages ($30-40) where the crew shoots professional photos from the boat.
Most operators offer full refunds with 24+ hours notice. Inside 24 hours, you typically forfeit the deposit. Weather cancellations always result in a full refund or free reschedule.
Both shores offer excellent parasailing with great views. South Shore (Lakeside, Round Hill Pines, Ski Run, Zephyr Cove) tends to have more operator choice and higher altitudes. North Shore (Tahoe City, Kings Beach) has a more relaxed, less crowded feel.
